Fighting The Good Fight

Listening to: This Is The Last Time - Keane

"Fighting the good fight,
Nate"

What does it mean? I have been using this “sign-off” for a couple years to remind me of my favorite verse:

1st Timothy 6:11-12
“But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

It’s a reminder, whenever I write this as a sign off, to pursue these vital characteristics in my life. It is an evident struggle to hold these character traits in this evil world. None of these things—righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, or gentleness—are promoted in our world… In fact, in this world, much the opposite is encouraged.

Because of all of this, I realize the achieving and holding of these qualities to be a “fight.” Besides, it’s not everyday you have a sign-off that can act as an opening to a deeper and more imperative conversation concerning eternal things.

fighting the good fight,
nate
